Valerio Orlando is Director of the Environmental Epigenetics Research Program (KEEP), Division of Bioscience, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology KAUST, Saudi Arabia. He graduated in 1989 in Biology from Sapienza University of Rome, then moved to the Center for Molecular Biology at the University of Heidelberg (ZMBH) where he carried out pioneering work in the field of molecular epigenetics. In 1998 he began his independent career at the Dibit San Raffaele Hospital in Milan. In 2001 he was included in the career program of the Telethon Foundation and was a co-founding member of the Dulbecco Telethon Institute (DTI), where he served as head of the Epigenetics and Genome Reprogramming laboratory at the Santa Lucia Foundation in Rome. After launching the first Italian flagship project on Epigenetics (EPIGEN), in 2013 he moved to KAUST where he was entrusted with the setting up ofa new research center on epigenetics.
