Silvia Marinelli

Silvia Marinella got her PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Rome Tor Vergata, after spending a few years at the University of Sydney, Australia, where she studied and identified cellular mechanisms of the pain descending pathway and developed an interest in the study of ion channels involved in the transmission of pain in the brain. Later on she joined Alberto Bacci’s group at the EBRI Rita Levi-Montalcini Foundation to study specific forms of synaptic plasticity and their mechanisms in the microcircuits of the cerebral cortex. Her group at EBRI continues to study the synaptic and neuronal plasticity properties of GABAergic synapses. In addition, the group studies the interaction between microglia and neurons in order to identify specific signallings fundamental for neuro-immune communication. See CV complete.
