Giorgio Metta is the Scientific Director of the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) where he serves as iCub Facility Director leading the development of the iCub humanoid robot. His research activities are in the field of bioinspired humanoid robotics with special attention to the development of artificial cognitive systems with automatic learning capabilities. He conducts his scientific activity working with interdisciplinary teams: neuroscientists, psychologists, computer scientists and roboticists. Author of over 200 publications, Metta was also Professor of Cognitive Robotics at the University of Plymouth (UK) from 2012 to 2019 , and Deputy Director with responsibility for European and international funding at IIT Genoa.
